PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has agreed to expand the Recalibration Plan for illegal immigrants to several other service sub-sectors, including restaurants, cargo, wholesale and retail, as well as cleaning and washing, according to the Human Resources Ministry.
The ministry said in a statement today that the implementation of the plan will be expanded to Sabah and Sarawak, subject to approval from both state governments.
The Cabinet meeting on June 23 agreed with the extension of the Recalibration Plan for illegal immigrants to support the implementation of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) till the end of the year or till the programme ends.
The plan to manage and regularise illegal immigrants in the country as legal workers employed by qualified employees has two main components, the Return Recalibration Programme and Labour Recalibration Programme.
The plan was initially implemented from Nov 16, 2020, to June 30 this year.
The ministry said the quota determination approval process for the Labour Recalibration Programme was after vetting by the Immigration Department.
"Employers with illegal immigrants who have passed the confirmation process can apply through the website www.fwcms.com.my. As such, the employer does not have to apply through the website www.eppax.gov.my," the ministry said.
The quota determination process and the supervising agency after the illegal immigrant has been vetted by the Immigration Department will create a balance in terms of the total quota approved as well as the number of temporary work permits approved.
