KUALA LUMPUR:Bernama editor-in-chief Datuk Mokhtar Hussain has been promoted to chief executive officer of the Malaysian National News Agency with immediate effect.

Bernama chairman Senator Ras Adiba Radzi announced Mokhtar’s appointment as the CEO after a meeting of the news agency’s board of governors today.

Mokhtar, 59, has been acting CEO since May 17, 2020, following the resignation of Nurini Kassim a day earlier. He has been editor-in-chief since Aug 23 last year and deputy editor-in-chief (general news) for six years prior to that.
