More than 30,000 homes in Selangor to face water supply disruption

A total of 30,831 homes in parts of Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor experienced water supply disruption due to the contamination of diesel oil at the Water Treatment Plant (LRA) at the Bernam River Headwork, Sabak Bernam.
The general manager of the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Department of Syabas, Priscilla Alfred said the temporary stop work at the plant had to be enforced since 10.40 on Wednesday morning, but the plant operator, Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd had yet to resume operations of the LRA.
Following the situation, she said, Syabas could not determine when the supply of treated water to consumers in the affected areas could be resumed.
"For the time being, Syabas would provide emergency water supply to the consumers through tanker lorries and existing static tanks according to priority," she said in a statement, here on Wednesday.
Priscilla said the affected areas in the Sabak Bernam region were the whole of Bagan Terap, Sungai Panjang, Parit 1 up to Parit 12 (Timur, Gambut and Barat), Sungai Haji Dorani Hala Sawah and Laut.
The whole area of Pekan Sabak, Batu 37 up to Batu 40, Sekendi, Sepintas, Jalan Sekolah Sepintas, Tanjung Ketum, Kampung Baru, Tanjung Jawa, Jalan Tengah, Pekan Sungai Besar, Panchang Bedena, Tebuk Pulai, Jalan Taman Pusara, Bagan Sungai Besar, Bagan Sungai Burung and Sungai Pulai.
Also affected were Peket 20 up to Peket 100 Hala Sawah and Laut, Parit 14 up to Parit 8 Hala Sawah and Laut, Pasir Panjang, Batu 23, Sungai Leman, Sungai Nibong, Bagan Nakhoda Omar, Sungai Tengar, Sungai Apong, Parit Baru, Sungai Air Tawar, Sungai Lang, Tebuk Pekan, Teluk Rhu, Tebuk Jawa and Kampung Banting.
She said that for the Hulu Selangor region, the affected area was the whole of Felda Gedangsa.
Priscilla said consumers wishing to obtain additional information could surf the Syabas website at www.syabas.com.my, the Facebook or Twitter by typing ‘puspel’ or ‘puspel syabas’.
"Consumers can also seek help by contacting the Customer Service Centre (PUSPEL) at the toll-free line, 1-800-88-5252 or SMS by typing PUSPELaduan / pertanyaan and sending to 39222," she added.
