More than 800,000 Malaysians barred from leaving country since 2011

A total 827,921 Malaysians have been blacklisted by the Immigration Department since 2011 from leaving the country for various offences.
The Home Ministry, in a written reply to Er Teck Hwa (DAP-Bakri), said the names of 200,727 of them were blacklisted for bankruptcy, defaulters of education loan (118,892 people), security offence (520 people) and the remaining for various other offences.
Those who have been blacklisted are barred from leaving the country, except with the permission of the relevant authorities, it said in the written reply which was distributed at the Parliament lobby here today.
Er wanted to know the number of Malaysians who had been blacklisted and barred from leaving the country since 2011.
