Although the Winter Solstice Festival is celebrated by the Chinese community, members of the 1Malaysia PJ service team, regardless of race and religion, today distributed 888 packets of traditional chinese dessert 'Tong Yuen' at Section 17 Wet Market here today.
Team members from the Malay, Indian and Chinese communities were seen carrying baskets containing Tong Yuen and distributing it to those who came to the wet market for their weekend shopping.
Petaling Jaya Selatan (PJS) Rukun Tetangga coordinator, Shamsuddin Hassan said the event was aimed at strenghthing unity between residents of different races in the area.
Tong Yuen, which is round in shape and made from glutinous flour boiled in syrup flavoured with ginger, signifies family togetherness.
