The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has urged banks to provide sufficient stock of RM10 notes in their auto teller machines (ATM) for the convenience of lower income workers.
Its vice-president A. Balasubramaniam told Bernama that MTUC had been receiving complaints from the workers that they were unable to withdraw their money from ATMs if they had a balance of less than RM50.
Balasubramaniam explained that it was now standard practice in the private sector that employers paid the salaries through bank accounts, which the MTUC supported, but there was a flip side to this.
He said for these workers withdrawing RM10, RM20 and RM30 was a norm and they were unable to do it because the machines did not have sufficient stocks of RM10 bills.
He called on Bank Negara to look into this and help to overcome the workers' plight.
