One of two men on a motorcycle fired at least 14 shots at the house of a contractor in Jalan Munshi Abdullah here early today, according to police.
No one was injured in the incident which took place at about 5am, said North East District Police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid.
He said the recording of the closed circuit television camera at the double-storey house showed two men, wearing full-face helmets, stop their motorcycle in front of the house.
One of them opened fire at the house from outside the perimeter fence, he said, adding that it was most probably intended to strike fear in the owner/occupant of the house.
Mior Faridalatrash said the 44-year-old contractor only realised what had happened at 6.30am when he wanted to send his children to school.
Bullet marks were found on the wall and front door of the house and police found 14 spent bullet casings in the compound, he said.
"The contractor heard the gunshots but thought they were exploding fire-crackers," he said.
A resident in the neighbourhood who wanted to be known only as Liew said she also thought that the gunshots were fire-crackers.
"Upon hearing the noise, I looked out of the house from the bedroom but did not see anything suspicious. I thought some naughty boys were letting off fire-crackers," said the 48-year-old housewife.
She only knew that it was a shooting incident after seeing policemen at the contractor's house, she said. -- Bernama
