MPK officers charged over botched fireworks display

Two Klang Municipal Council officers pleaded not guilty at the Klang Magistrate's Court today over a botched fireworks incident last January 1st.
The council's Corporate and Social Department director, Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin, and administrative assistant Mohd Nizam Saad, were charged separately over the incident that saw 15 people injured.
Mohd Nizam was charged with causing hurt by endangering the life or personal safety of others, in launching the fireworks.
While Zaireezal was charged as an accomplice, in directing Mohd Nizam to launch the fireworks.
Both were charged under the Penal Code.
If found guilty, they can be jailed up to six months, fined 1,000 ringgit, or both.
Both Mohd Nizam and Zaireezal pleaded not guilty.
The court set bail for Mohd Nizam at RM1,500 with a surety, and fixed April 20 for mention.
While Zaireezal's bail was set at 2,000 ringgit with a surety, with April 11 fixed for mention and documents submission.
