MPKB to impose fee for a stay at hotels, guesthouses, homestays from Jan 1

The Kota Bharu Municipal Council (MPKB) will be imposing a local government fee to all guests who stay in hotels, guesthouses and homestays here from Jan 1.

Its deputy public relations director Azman Mohd Daham said the RM7 fee per room per night will be imposed for stay at three-star accommodation and above.

"There is a RM2 fee per room per night stay for two-star accommodation and below, in accordance with the provisions of MKPB's by-laws," he said in a statement here, Wednesday.

Azman said the fee will be collected by the operator of the respective accommodation on behalf of the council and the money shall be used exclusively for the Kota Bharu tourism agenda including hygiene management at tourist attractions. -- BERNAMA
