MRT operator urges commuters to use cashless mode

Rapid Rail, in a statement today, said beginning Tuesday, commuters would be charged between RM1.20 and RM3.90, depending on distance travelled under the cash fare structure and between RM1.20 and RM3.40 under the cashless mode.

"Passengers can purchase their travel tokens from the Ticket Vending Machines. For cashless mode, passengers can purchase the regular Touch 'n Go cards, the MRT Monthly Cards or the MRT Weekly Cards from the customer service offices at the stations for travel convenience," it said.

Only tokens and Touch 'n Go cards can be used to enter the ticketing gates, while MyRapid Cards are only acceptable for use after the opening of phase two between Semantan and Kajang, which is scheduled for July.

Rapid Rail said students, senior citizens and people with disabilities (OKU) would be accorded a 50 per cent discount and the concession tokens could be purchased from customer service offices at any MRT stations.

With the expiry of the promotional free ride, the feeder bus service will be charging RM1 per trip, it said, adding that payment could be made by cash or Touch 'n Go cards.

It said students, senior citizens, and people with disabilities would be accorded a 50 per cent discount if they were to pay by cash, upon producing their student cards (if not in uniform), national registration identity card, or OKU cards when boarding the bus.
