The phase two of the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) service from Semantan to Kajang, covering a distance of 30 kilometres and involving 19 stations is expected to be fully operational in July.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Ir Zohari Sulaiman said it was an extension of the phase one route from Sungai Buloh to Semantan which started operations in December last year.
"According to MRT Corp plans, the phase two of the MRT 1 route was expected to be launched in July and the route from Semantan to Kajang would be opened," he told reporters after launching the Rapid Rail Fiesta at the Sra Damansara Light Rail Transit (LRT) station, here today.
On the fiesta, he said it was an initiative of Rapid Rail to liven up the LRT station so that the people would use the service as a preferred choice for public transport.
Zohari said various interesting activities would be held during the weekends throughout April, including food sale, entertainment shows and booths manned by local celebrities.
More than 60 vendors are taking part in the fiesta which begins at 10 am until 10 pm.
