MRT worker killed in crane mishap

A worker of a construction company, a subcontractor for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project, was killed in a crane mishap at the construction site of the Kwasa Damansara station in Kota Damansara, here, today.
In the 2.15 pm incident, the victim Mohd Amin Wahip, 25, from Sandakan, Sabah, who had started work with the company three months ago, was using the skylift crane to install the ceiling when the machine suddenly overshot and crashed the cage he was in into a steel rod.
Sungai Buloh District Police chief Supt Mohd Rozi Jidin said during the 2.15 pm incident, the victim carried out the installation work alone while the crane driver went to the toilet, according to Bernama.
"The victim sustained neck injuries and initial investigation revealed no criminal element in the incident," Mohd Rozi said when contacted here today.
He said the body was sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for post-mortem and the case was classified as sudden death.
Meanwhile, in a statement today, MRT Corporation and MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) said they would cooperate with relevant authorities conducting the investigations into the accident.
"MRT Corporation and MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) deeply regret the incident and wish to offer condolences to the family members of the victim," the statement said.
