ALOR SETAR:The postponement of the Muafakat Nasonal (MN) Consultative Committee  Meeting and the UMNO Supreme Council (MT) Meeting was made to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government.

According to PAS Secretary-General, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, the postponement was also made to ease and reduce the political tensions that are happening in the country at this time.

He added that all parties also need to allow the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to focus in ensuring that all problems related to COVID-19 can be addressed.

"Yesterday's meeting was postponed to follow the SOP, Pas meeting with UMNO was also postponed. Today the UMNO MT (Supreme Council) meeting was also postponed, so it seems we want to ease the political situation…. Everyone is focused on COVID-19.

"Everyone has to make sure its stability, including the opposition, because we need to give an opportunity to the government today which has taken all efforts to ensure that we can handle COVID-19. There is no reason for any party to threaten the work done by the government today either inside or outside Parliament," he said.

Takiyuddin said this when met after attending a meeting with the Head of the Kedah State Federal Agency Department at Wisma Persekutuan, Anak Bukit, here on Tuesday.

Earlier, a joint statement by the secretary-general of PAS and UMNO was issued to explain the adjournment of the MN Consultative Committee Meeting on Tuesday to comply with the instructions of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), especially in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

The statement also stated that the leadership of both parties had agreed to formally register MN with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS).
