Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, the chief prosecutor in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy case, is only telling the truth when he spoke about the case.
UMNO information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said Muhammad Shafee's action was to explain that the case was not a conspiracy as claimed by the Opposition.
Ahmad, who is also Deputy Finance Minister, said NGOs have the right to invite Muhammad Shafee to give talks.
"It is up to the NGOs to invite him. We cannot stop him as the Opposition is preoccupied with the conspiracy theory," he told reporters after a meeting with Kedah Umno division heads, here Sunday.
"Muhammad Shafee's series of roadshows called 'Sejenak Bersama TS Shafee Abdullah' is not at the insistence of UMNO or the government.
"Malaysia is a free country. I am pretty sure that he (Muhammad Shafee) is not telling lies," he added.
Yesterday, Muhammad Shafee held roadshows to justify the judgment of the sodomy case against Anwar.
The roadshows, held in Permatang Pauh, Penang were organised by an NGO.
Anwar, 67, is serving a five years' jail sentence for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 30, in 2008 after his final appeal was rejected.
This followed the Federal Court's decision on Feb 10 to uphold the Appeals Court decision to convict Anwar on March 7, 2014.
