KUALA LUMPUR:Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim need to make peace and focus on negotiations so that the problems that plague the country can be overcome.

Senior Fellow of the National Council of Professors, Dr Jeniri Amir, said the opposition leaders' insistence that Muhyiddin resign as Prime Minister should be set aside when the country is facing various crises such as the COVID epidemic and economic uncertainty.

"Despite the demands of the opposition for him (Muhyiddin) to resign, I think for a while set this (the claim) aside.

"The most important thing now is for the Prime Minister to start the move by contacting certain parties, especially the Opposition Leader (Anwar Ibrahim) to negotiate to solve the problems faced and how to get support.

"I believe the move has been taken by his party (Muhyiddin) to contact MPs from the opposition to ensure they can understand the implications and effects if they do not support the 2021 Budget (to be tabled) later," Dr Jeniri told Astro AWANI on Monday.
