The Barisan Nasional (BN) is ready to face the Sungai Limau state by-election in Kedah, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Monday.
The BN deputy chairman said the coalition must work hard to convince the voters of Sungai Limau if it wanted to capture the seat.
The seat fell vacant following the death of former Kedah menteri besar and state PAS commissioner Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak on Sept 26.
The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday to set the dates for nomination and polling for the by-election.
Muhyiddin said Kedah Umno held its first meeting on the upcoming by-election yesterday.
"Hopefully, we will win", he told a news conference here after meeting staff of the Sabah campus zone of the Teacher Education Institute.
In the 13th general election last May, Azizan garnered 13,294 votes to beat his cousin, Mohd Fazillah Mohd Ali, of the BN by a majority of 2,774 votes.
