Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin called for the setting up of a taskforce to probe today's bus accident in Genting Highlands which claimed 37 lives.
Speaking to Malaysian journalists soon after arriving here for a two-day official visit to Thailand beginning tomorrow, he said authorities such as the Land Public Transport Commission, the police and Road Transport Department should set up the taskforce to identify the cause of the accident and look into measures to avert such accidents in the future.
He expressed the hope that immediate action would be taken because the Genting Highlands-Kuala Lumpur Road was heavily used, including by tourists.
"It was a really dreadful accident," he said, and expressed his condolences to the families of the dead.
Thirty-seven people died and 16 were injured after a bus with 53 people on board plunged into a 60-metre ravine at Km3.5 of Jalan Genting Highlands-Kuala Lumpur as it was descending from the hill resort at 2.45 pm.
