Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today spent almost an hour mingling with the town folk here.

He arrived at 10.30am accompanied by Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to meet the people and traders there who had been eagerly awaiting his visit since as early as 7am.

At the Karak farmers market, he enjoyed a Mesta drink and bought Petai and Tampoi fruit (Baccaurea macrocarpa).

Petai trader Rafeah Unthong, 51, said she felt very excited that the Deputy Prime Minister bought a frond of petai (Luceana species) from her stall although many others there were also selling the local favourite.

"The petai he bought cost RM60, he gave RM100 and told me to keep the change," said Rafeah, who hails from Kampung Pelantar Jamburias, near here.
