Mum of disabled and abandoned teen pleads not guilty
Charged in Sessions Court
The mother of Muhammad Firdaus Dullah, the 15-year-old disabled teen who was found abandoned in a flat in Taman Semarak in Nilai early Saturday was charged by the Sessions Court today for negligence and leaving her son without supervision.
Lolanopita Sadi, 40, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and claimed trial before judge B.Jagjit Singh.
She was charged under sections 31(1)(a) and 33(c) of the Child Act 2001. Those convicted under section 31(1)(a) can be fined up to RM20,000, and jailed up to 10 years. Section 33(c) provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or jail up to two years or both.
Both offences were committed at the same flat between January and 21 June 2014.
Judge Jagjit fixed bail at RM7,000 for both of the charges and fixed re-mention on July 24.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Salleh Ahmad Terrirudin while the accused was represented by counsel Hanif Hassan.
The teenager was found last Saturday when an Immigration team conducting routine checks on illegals found Muhammad Firdaus locked all by himself in a room in the unit.
Muhammad Firdaus found in a destitute condition - extremely malnourished with his bones protruding. His condition was unkempt and when the authorities found him, he was covered in his own faeces and urine.
Muhammad Firdaus is now placed at the Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban Hospital (HTJS) for recovery.
