Muslims too dependent on others, says Tun M
Not able to defend themselves and being too dependent on others are among the reasons why Muslims are getting weaker nowadays, said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said they also neglected education especially in mathematics, science, architecture and technology which were required by Islam.
"This kind of learning is not secular. So, we are far behind. "We are dependent on knowledge, skills from them (other religions), even to defend of our ummah (the faithful," he said at the International Islamic University Malaysia's Alumni Association Awards Night yesterday.
Among the 14 award recipients were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim, Health Deputy Minister Datuk Rosnah Shirlin, Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
