Muslims warned against deviationist teachings

The Muslim community in the state was today told to be wary of quarters trying to deviate them from the true teachings of Islam.
Sabah Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris, said the irresponsible quarters used various ways and tricks in their attempt to deviate Muslims from the true Islamic teachings.
This, he said, was done not only through the traditional way by approaching the Muslim community in the villages, but also using the social media.
"As such, Muslims, especially the Islamic scholars, academicians, , ustaz, ustazah, youths should work together to address the threat," he said when opening a seminar jointly-organised by the Sandakan Municipal Council and the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department here today.
Zakaria, who is Gum-Gum assemblyman said Sabah Fatwa Council had identified 16 teachings or beliefs that deviated from the teachings of ahli sunnah wal-jamaah.
They included Qadiani (spread by the Ahmadiah Qadiani ), Al-Arqam, Syiah, Hizbut Tahrir, Millah Abraham, Tarikat Hasaniah, Liberalism and Pluralism, he added. - BERNAMA
