Kelantan Umno liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has obtained an interim injunction to prevent PAS' Datuk Husam Musa and four others from further issuing false and defamatory statements on him regarding the issue of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGVH).
High Court judge Datuk Nor Bee Ariffin made the order in chambers after meeting lawyers Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, representing Mustapa, and Azhana Mohd Khairuddin, for the five defendants.
Muhammad Shafee told media members that the interim injunction was issued until the hearing of the inter-parte injunction on July 17.
Meanwhile, Azhana said his clients would reply to all the affidavits filed by the plaintiff over the injunction application.
On April 22, Mustapa filed a defamation suit against Husam, then a Kelantan state executive council member; PAS; the party's secretary-general and permit holder of Harakah, Datuk Mustafa Ali; chief editor of http:/harakahdaily.net. Zulkifli Sulong and its editor, Azmi Yusof.
In the statement of claim, Mustapa stated that Husam, on March 23 this year, during a political ceramah at Tapak Expo Machang, Kelantan, had issued defamatory statements on him in connection with the FGVH shares.
The former International Trade and Industry Minister also claimed that the alleged defamatory statements were posted by the other four defendants on harakahdaily.net. the following day.
Mustapa, 63, claimed that the statements implied, among others, he was a corrupt leader and politician, not credible and a politician who abused his power for personal gain and for other Umno leaders.
As a result of the statements, Mustapa said his personal and professional reputation had been badly tarnished.
