'My presence at Oktoberfest did not insult anybody' - Teresa Kok

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said her recent presence during an Oktoberfest beer festival was not aimed at insulting the sensitivity of any religion.

She said the festival was an event for non-Muslims and that it was within her civil rights as a non-Muslim to attend the festival.

"They said it is wrong for Muslims to attend... (but) I am not a Muslim. It was held in a private venue. And I was not showing off,” said the DAP national vice-chairman when met at the PAS headquarters on Sunday.

Kok also defended her action of uploading several photos taken during the festival on Facebook.

"Are they telling me I can no longer put up these photos of wedding or 'yum seng' on my Facebook?” she asked.

The Oktoberfest controversy began when several parties expressed their disappointment after a billboard promoting the festival was installed around Shah Alam.

The beer festival which started on September 24 is held at various locations including Saujana Hotel Subang and Berjaya Times Square Hotel.

The highlight of the festival took place from October 10 to 12 at One Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya.

Kok was criticised by several quarters for attending the festival.
