KUALA LUMPUR:A Myanmar man was detained for allegedly causing hurt on a shop assistant during an amok incident in Selayang near here yesterday.
Gombak district police chief ACP Arifai Tarawe said the police were alerted on the incident at about 2.20 pm and initial investigation found that the suspect, aged 20, had entered the hardware shop to take away a children’s bicycle, but was stopped by the shop assistant, a 25-year-old Bangladeshi.
“The suspect then returned to the shop with a knife and stabbed the shop assistant on the left shoulder, before turning aggressive and caused damage to several items in the shop,” he said in a statement today.
He said the Bangladeshi man and a colleague attempted to apprehend the suspect before the police arrived and detained him.
The police also seized a 15-cm long knife believed to be used by the suspect in the incident, he added.
A video on the incident, with a man running amok in a hardware shop had gone viral since early today.
