The HMAS Sheean submarine drew the attention of public and a slew of photos of the submarine emerging from water circulated on social media.
DAP Secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the sight of HMS Sheean submarine in Penang waters surprised the ferry passengers.
The diesel-electric powered submarine arrived in Penang at 11.30am and will be in Penang waters until October 2.
Penang Navy representative (RNO) was quoted saying, HMAS Sheean will be in Penang from today until October 2 and is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Penang RNO, today.
After Penang, HMAS Sheean will proceed to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and will be training with KD Tunku Abdul Rahman (KD TAR is a Scorpène-class submarine built for the Royal Malaysian Navy) on October 12 and 13.
It is understood that after completion of training, the submarine will return to its marine base in West Australia.
