MyTeksi Or Uber application only for licensed vehicles
Shahidan said SPAD was drafting a new policy to monitor taxi booking system using the smartphone application.
Only licensed vehicles and those with permit are allowed to use the MyTeksi or Uber application to get passengers, the Dewan Rakyat was told Wednesday.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said this was because private vehicles were meant for personal use and could not be used for commercial purposes.
"The application is widely used by taxi users and drivers and its usage is legal, but only for licensed vehicles," he said in response to a question by Dr Lee Boon Chye (PKR-Gopeng).
Shahidan also said the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) was drafting a new policy to monitor taxi booking system using the smartphone application, as well as having discussions with the providers of the applications.
