Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman, Datuk R Sri Sanjeevan, was rearrested for the fifth time for his alleged involvement in criminal intimidation and extortion.
According to news portal Malaysiakini, he was detained shortly after the police failed to obtain a remand order against him from a Seremban magistrate.
Sanjeevan's arrest was based on the same case, but on a different police report, said his lawyer S Prakash.
On June 22, Sanjeevan was arrested in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan for allegedly receiving extortion money totaling more than RM300,000 a month since the past few years.
According to sources close to the investigation, the extortion was made against illegal gambling operators nationwide.
