MyWatch chairman R Sri Sanjeevan has claimed that he received a SMS death threat Thursday morning, amid plans to revive the anti-crime NGO with more exposés on crime syndicates and dirty cops.
At 3.53am, Sanjeevan said he received the SMS from an unknown number.
Writing in a mix of Tamil and Malay, it said:“I am going to kill you. You think you’re so great. You don’t play with me, brother. If you think you are great, I am greater than you. Confirm you will die in my hands. If you have the balls, call me at...”
Sanjeevan, who is recovering after being shot by unknown gunmen in July 2013, said he woke up at 8am to find the message on his phone and was immediately hit by a sense of déjà vu.
The familiar feeling of being harassed and hunted, he said, always accompanied him before his near fatal experience.
“Not even 10 days after 2014, the trend is coming back. What is going to happen next is of course a mystery, especially because police refuse to give me or my family protection,” claimed Sanjeeevan to Astro AWANI.
Recounting the various types harassment he has received when he was spearheading the MyWatch campaign, Sanjeevan said he never got clear answers on them.
These incidents include a death threat in January 2013, a report he made against the Jelebu police also on threats against him, the incident where he was assaulted by three men at a parking lot, and lastly the shooting.
He complained that the police have been ineffective in solving his shooting, and the other cases prior to that.
He said he will lodge a police report though he was not confident anything will come out of it.
Asked if he was afraid, Sanjeevan just laughed. "I am worried about my family, that's all," he said.
On July 27, 2013, Sanjeevan was gunned down by an unknown gunman while driving with his friend in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan. No arrests have been made on the case to date.
On Wednesday, Sanjeevan told news portal FreeMalaysiaToday that MyWatch will continue to make exposés, despite having former IGP Musa Hassan and S Gobikrishnan, whom were MyWatch patron and adviser, leaving the NGO following the shooting.
