Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak today hit out at a DAP elected representative for making a rude statement when criticising Umno leaders.
"In the democratic system, we can have differing stand, and we can criticise one another, but rude statements are not allowed and should not be made by any elected representative or political leader.
"I consider this as something extreme, something that is rude and cannot be accepted by Malaysians who are rational and sane," he told Malaysian journalists when asked to comment on the statement made by Seri Delima (Penang) State Assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer recently.
Rayer made the rude remark at Umno leaders at the Penang State Legislative Assembly sitting recently which caused anger to Umno members.
The Prime Minister said Malaysians must show that they respected healthy and mature democratic practices.
Najib, who is also the Umno president, however advised Umno members not to resort to extreme measure in their reaction.
"We must respect the law and code of ethics in our country, so I hope everyone will respond properly and not react in a manner that will affect the image of our party," he said.
Najib is here on a three-day official visit to Kazakhstan.
