Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was greeted by more than 1,000 people when he visited the Bayan Baru market here today, but he made the biggest impression on three people - Sok Yat Foh, 65, Hashim Ahmad, 90, and G. Iswaree, 45.
Sok had gone to the market not for anything else but just to see Najib up close. He was there at 7 am, but saw a big crowd of people had already gathered there.
"I thought I was early, but many people had come even earlier. The number of people was unexpectedly high. I was fortunate to see the prime minister up close," he told Bernama.
Najib, who was accompanied by Barisan Nasional (BN) component party leaders, including Tourism Minister and Penang MCA chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, was at the market for about an hour.
His presence there elicited shouts of "1Malaysia", "Hidup PM" (Long live the PM) and "Hidup BN" (Long live the BN) from the people.
