Najib hits out at groups raising sensitive issues for political gain

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today hit out at the groups who raised sensitive issues for short-term political gain in the run up to the 13th general election (GE13). He said this irresponsible attitude was bad and could jeopardise solidarity among the plural society in the country. "I notice there is the mulish attitude, rigid attitude, the attitude of making short-term political gain and raising issues by severeal political figures purely to gain mileage in the run up to the election. "This is an irresponsible attitude adopted by them purely to fish for votes," he said at the launching of the Federal Territory Day 2013 celebrations at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, here. Meanwhile, he called on the people to always adopt the attitude of mutual respect and to refrain from touching on sensitive racial issues. Najib said that under the concept of mutual respect, the people must also not offend or hurt the feelings of the other members of society. "If we can adopt this feeling of mutual-respect, then I believe we can live in peace," he said. At the launching ceremony, the Prime Minister also announced an additional fund of RM5 million for the 1Federal Territory Security Scheme to enable efforts in crime prevention to be carried out more effectively. The scheme was launched by the Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing with an initial fund of RM2 million through contributions by the private sector and managed by the Urban Wellbeing Foundation. "This is our commitment. Security is one of the (major) issues for the city dwellers, besides the other initiatives taken by the government," Najib said. Meanwhile, Najib welcomed the efforts of the ministry to take the Federal Territory Day celebrations to the parliamentary constituencies on rotation, saying that this would bring the Federal Territory Day celebrations closer to the residents of the federal territories.
