Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, have retained their post uncontested as Umno president and deputy president, respectively.

Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli, when announcing this, said there were no other nomination forms received, except from the two leaders, as of 5pm today, the deadline for party members to submit their nomination forms.

Najib has been Umno president since 2009 after winning the post uncontested that year, while Muhyiddin won the party deputy presidency also in the same year after defeating former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib.

What is unique about the registration process for candidates this time around is that the two party leaders are the proposer for each other's nomination.

Muhyiddin proposed Najib for the presidency, while Najib proposed Muhyiddin for the post of deputy president.
