KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak needs to drag Jho Low to court if he sincerely wants to clear his name from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, said Amanah Central Committee Member, Faiz Fadzil.
Faiz said the latest revelation of fugitive businessman, Jho Low or real name Low Taek Jho through Al-Jazeera's special documentary entitled 'Jho Low: Hunt For A Fugitive' was a serious allegation.
He said Jho Low's claim that Najib who was then the Prime Minister of Malaysia was responsible over the approval of all 1MDB transactions, was the latest evidence related to the misappropriation of scandal money involving almost RM20 billion.
"Jho Low also claimed that almost RM4 billion (US$1 billion) had been deposited into Najib's personal account which is a serious allegation," he said in a statement, today.
He said Jho Low accused the Najib administration of not wanting to disclose documents when he negotiated the settlement of the 1MDB and the US Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuits as if the mystery of Jho Low's disappearance might be protected by someone in power.
"The authorities, especially the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should investigate this revelation so that the world's biggest kleptocracy scandal is investigated to the core as it involves the integrity and dignity of the country.
"Jho Low's claim that almost RM2 billion (US$500 million) was spent to buy jewellery for (Datin Seri) Rosmah Mansor is also very shocking.
"If this revelation is true, it is a betrayal to the people and the country because 1MDB's debt has to be paid by the country," he added.
Faiz said, so far, it is estimated that more than RM14 billion of 1MDB debt is paid through national funds.
"Already the country's coffers are getting worse, the people are suffering more and more due to the lack of a complete government defence," he said.
