Former Home Affairs Minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar today said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is still the best person to become prime minister.
“For me whether Hadi or Anwar Ibrahim… the most qualified person to become the prime minister is our current Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional should be chosen,” he told reporters when met outside the Dewan Rakyat.
He said look at the opposition’s attitude and how emotional they can act creates fear for the country’s future and therefore he said it is better to carefully consider not choose them (for the next general election).
On his personal opinion, Syed Hamid said Hadi is not qualified to become prime minister.
On Saturday, a delegate from the PAS Ulama Council during the party’s annual assembly has suggested the party to promote its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for the prime ministerial post if the opposition won the next general election.
The delegate, Hairun Nizam, said Hadi should be the prime minister as he had the best Islamic qualifications among the opposition leaders.
Meanwhile, commenting on the current situation at the Gaza strip, he urged the major powers to adapt the same standard in dealing with humanity issues.
He argued that the major power intervented during Arab Springs but shied away when Israel launched its attack on Gaza.
“What has the children got to do with this? What were their sins?” Syed Hamid said.
“Their (the Israel) military forces are the strongest in East Asia… why do we allow such crime to be done towards humanity?” he added.
He also suggested that the matter be referred to the international criminal court so that they can be justified for their extreme act.
Commenting on US president Barack Obama’s act of defending the rights of Israel to ‘defend’ themselves, he said what obama has done maybe good for America but not good for the world.
“This is something that should not be allowed to happen,” stressed Syed Hamid.
He added that America still has power and influence and they should use their powers for humanity so that justice can be upheld.
