Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he is committed to seeing Perlis develop further.
Towards this end, he said he would provide development allocations for several projects in the state among which were the Lembah Chuping Industrial Zone (RM800 million) and Perlis Inland Port (RM200 million).
He said he had also approved the construction of the Padang Besar Hospital, a secondary school in Kangar and a primary a school in Padang Besar.
"And the latest, a UTC (Urban Transformation Centre) will be built in Kangar and due for completion next year. Believe me, my commitment to the party and nation has never diminished," he said when opening the Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau UMNO divisions delegates meetings at Dewan Wawasan 2020, here, today.
Najib said although Perlis is a small state, the focus on the state was always there, including politically.
"Perlis has a record of winning 100 per cent at Parliamentary level. Lost two state seats. Perlis is excellent politically, must be maintained," he said.
He said the state UMNO must be united to maintain the excellent record.
"I try to form a team which is better than Barcelona or Real Madrid. Its chairman (State UMNO Liaison committee chairman) is a minister. A brave minister.
"Administratively, we appointed a PTD (Administrative and Diplomatic officer) who is skilled and can helm Perlis well. I saw Padang Besar UMNO division chief Datuk Zahidi (Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin) did not have a job. I appointed him as RISDA (Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Association) chairman.
"The three of you should cooperate. I have given out roles, all have roles. Don't kick into own goal, the enemies will win. What is important is UMNO winning," he added.
