Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today visited former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak at the intensive care unit of Penang Hospital.
Accompanied by wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the prime Minister arrived at 1.30pm and spent about 15 minutes with Azizan and his family members.
"I have just visited Azizan and thanks to God, the operation has been done. He is stable condition and being given the best treatment," he told reporters here.
He prayed that Azizan would make a quick recovery.
"As a leader, although Azizan is from another party, I respected him as a friend. I thank his family for accepting my visit," he said.
Najib said necessary assistance would be extended to Azizan to ensure he is given the best treatment.
Meanwhile, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, accompanied by wife, Tun Dr Hasmah Ali, and their son, Datuk Mukhriz, also visited Azizan today.
"He (Azizan) is unconscious because of the medicine so that he does not move too much, but he is not in a comatose state," said Mahathir.
In a related development, Azizan's press secretary, Mohd Helmi Khalid, requested the public cooperation to defer their plans to visit the Kedah PAS Commissioner for the time being to allow him to rest.
"On behalf of Azizan's family, I seek the cooperation of members of the public as we wish to give the patient the rest as advised by the hospital authority," he added.
On Azizan's progress, he said, Azizan was showing positive signs, opening his eyes four times from 6.30am to 8.30am today.
Mohd Helmi also expressed regrets over the action of some quarters in posting pictures of Azizan on the websites and advised them to stop doing show as a respect for Azizan's family.
Azizan, 69, who is Sungai Limau Assemblyman for Sungai Limau, underwent an operation to amputate both his legs which were affected by diabetic complications last Thursday.
