Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants the state Chinese community to give their strong support to the state Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the leadership of Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem in the coming 11th Sarawak State Election.
Speaking at the national level Chinese New Year celebration held at the Sibu Town Square here Saturday, the Prime Minister said they should stopped being divided.
"We need the Chinese community to be strongly represented in the state government.
"If the other bumiputera communities can give their full support to Adenan and his team, the Chinese should do likewise for a very strong state government," he said.
Najib said when the state government is strong, Adenan would be in a better position to talk and negotiate with the federal government on things like more development allocations to the state, its greater empowerment and so forth which would benefit the people.
"Adenan has been saying and doing the right things. He needs more time to deliver," he said.
Meanwhile Najib said, to be regarded by Adenan as the only Prime Minister so far with very great commitment to develop the state, was a great recognition for him.
"Sarawak is a very big state. I want all its nooks and corners to benefit from the development efforts of the government.
"We will give the state infrastructure development our highest priority," he said.
In this regard, Najib said he would launch another package in the ongoing upgrading and construction of the Pan Borneo Highway this April.
"I will launch the stretches from Bintangor to Julau and the Sibu Airport roundabaout until Sungai Kua Bridge in Selangau," he said.
Najib also said there was a plan to elevate Sibu from a municipality to a city status as well.
"The proposal is yet to be forwarded to the Cabinet but I will give it my full support," he said.
On the celebration Najib added like any other major community-based celebrations, it augured well for national unity as it was about social harmony and social cohesiveness among the many different ethnic groups.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tong Lai and the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were among those present.
The event was also attended by more than 10,000 people.
