Nallakarupan claim attempts to prevent him from contesting Kajang by-election
Malaysian United Indian Party (MUIP) president Senator Datuk S. Nallakaruppan (pix) on Saturday lodged a police report that certain quarters had allegedly tried to prevent him from contesting in the Kajang state by-election.
The report was lodged at the Sentul District Police Station here at 3 pm.
Nallakaruppan arrived there with seven of his followers.
The report was lodged to enable the police to investigate the alleged interference to obstruct his intention to contest after he announced it to the media last Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters Nallakaruppan said on February 4, two men had tried to obstruct his car near his house in the federal capital and asked him not to stand in Kajang while on Friday another three men had gone to his house with the same intention.
"I am also being disturbed by numerous calls that went silent when answered, besides SMSes that asked me not to contest," he said.
The by-election is being held after Kajang state assemblyman, Lee Chin Cheh resigned from his post on January 27 this year.
Besides Nallakarupan, who is also a member of the Dewan Negara, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also offered himself to stand in the Kajang state constituency on March 23.
