Namewee released on police bail

Controversial rapper, Namewee, who was detained for allegedly insulting Islam in his latest video, 'Oh My God! is freed on police bail after his four-day remand ended today.
George Town Magistrates' Court registrar, Ahmad Tajudin Zaini rejected police application to extend the remand period.
The 33-year-old entertainer arrived at the George Town Magistrate Court at 11.34am today before he was brought to the police headquarters on Jalan Patani for further action at 12pm.
The songwriter/film director, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, Selangor upon arrival from Taiwan to assist investigation under Section 295 of the Penal Code.
He was remanded on Monday to assist investigation linked to the music video, portraying four men singing in Mandarin at a mosque in Tanjung Bungah, here.
According to northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid, Namewee has been released while waiting for the directive from the Attorney-General office.
Claiming that Namewee insulted Islam in the four-minute production, 20 non-governmental organisations lodged police reports in Penang against the rapper.
