KUALA LUMPUR:Padang Rengas Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has proposed a new government to be established in Perak following Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu losing support in the state assembly.
Nazri also suggested that UMNO work with Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to form a new government in the state.
“UMNO Perak needs to work with Amanah and PKR to form a new government led by UMNO.
“What happened in the Perak DUN today, Amanah and PKR have together with UMNO rejected the motion of confidence on the Menteri Besar.
“Bersatu and Pas are not with UMNO,” he told Astro AWANI when contacted.
However, Nazri explained, what happened in Perak will not affect the federal government.
"This only happens in Perak, it has nothing to do with the federal government... not necessarily when the government changes in Perak, then it will also change at the federal level. This is the new norm,” he added.
Ahmad Faizal, who is also the Chenderiang assemblyman, was appointed Menteri Besar when Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over the reins of the state leadership in the last general election.
After the political realignment of the country which saw PH overthrown last February, Ahmad Faizal remained the Menteri Besar with the support of BN and Pas.
On Friday, Ahmad Faizal lost a vote of confidence brought by UMNO elected representatives, causing the Bersatu deputy president to lose his majority as Menteri Besar.
Only 10 out of 59 state assemblymen supported the motion compared to 48 who rejected while one vote was spoilt or neutral.
Meanwhile, PAS has decided not to participate in the effort to form a new government in Perak.
Its secretary-general, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan in a statement also confirmed that three PAS state assemblymen (ADUN) gave their support to the Menteri Besar in a motion made in the Perak state assembly on Friday morning.
“PAS took note of the decision of the motion of the majority of ADUNs on the Menteri Besar where three Pas ADUNs supported it in line with the stand made by the Central PAS Political Lajnah.
“So, in line with the decision, PAS has made a decision not to participate in the effort to form a new Perak State Government.
"Nevertheless, PAS will continue to play its role in society at the state and national levels," he said.
The three PAS ADUNs in Perak are Gunung Semanggol ADUN who is also the Perak PAS Commissioner, Razman Zakaria; Selama ADUN, Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin and Kubu Gajah ADUN, Khalil Yahaya.
