The 'Negaraku' initiative to be launched by the government will spur Malaysians to set aside their differences, to be positive and optimistic about the country.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said the initiative will involve Malaysians from all levels of society.
"What is certain is that it will produce the best traits of our society regardless of race or ideology," he said in a statement today.
Citing the words of the Father of Independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, he said unity has been the country's foundation, making it able to compete with global giants in many different fields, despite still considered young.
"There is no doubt that the key lies in the unity and cooperation of the people, and must remain united in the face of criticisms by those with ill intentions."
Salleh said it was unfortunate that the prejudice and criticisms had affected the loyalty and pride of a handful of some Malaysians towards this country.
"We all have to stand up and show our love for Malaysia. Do let it fade and provide inspiration in maintaining the glory of this country," he added.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said to mark 60th Merdeka (National Day) celebration, the government will launch the 'Negaraku' initiative to enhance the spirit of patriotism among the people. -BERNAMA
