Negeri Sembilan ready to sell water to Klang Valley consumers, elsewhere in Selangor

The Negeri Sembilan Government is prepared to sell treated water for the use of consumers in the Klang Valley and elsewhere in Selangor, which currently face a water crisis.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said, taking into account the best interest of the public, the state government had no problem in selling water to Selangor and the Klang Valley, if the Federal Government so required.

"In the near future, we can sell a maximum of 20 million gallons of water per day from the Ngoi-Ngoi water treatment plant in Pantai, Seremban.

"The treatment plant has a daily production capacity of 30 million gallons of clean water to supply to Seremban.

"We can sell 20 million gallons, and for the remaining 10 million gallons, we can use for our own needs. The Ngoi-Ngoi plant gets its raw water supply from the Triang dam in Jelebu," he told reporters after chairing an exco meeting here Wednesday.

However, he said for a long-term plan, another new water treatment plant should be built to supply treated water to the state.

"This is because the Ngoi-Ngoi plant which has a capacity of 30 million gallons a day is being used to balance the Sungai Terip treatment plant.

"If there is a bid to buy the state's water by the Federal Government for use in Selangor and the Klang Valley, then another new and larger plant must be built with a capacity of up to 100 million gallons of water per day.

"Such a plant can be built because we have an area near the Ngoi-Ngoi plant which we have kept for this purpose in our long-term plan.

"The Ngoi-Ngoi plant can supply treated water up to 2025. We welcome the Federal Government to build the plant there," he said.
