New Cinderella Trailer Released

Disney has released a new trailer for its live-action “Cinderella,” taking full advantage of Cate Blanchett’s role as the deliciously wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine.

The film, starring newcomer Lily James as Cinderella while Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”) plays Prince Charming, who’s told to forget about Cinderella and marry someone who will aid the kingdom. Lily James looks stunning and a natural fit for the role. If anyone had a doubt that she could thrive in a posh, refined environment of high breeding after her work on Downton Abbey, well, then they must feel pretty silly. Whether she’s toiling and slaving away in the kitchen of her harridan stepmother, Lady Tremaine (Cate Blanchett) or dancing in the ballroom with her Prince, she looks perfect for the part.

Blanchett even breaks the glass slipper in order to keep Cinderella from Prince Charming which adds to the uncertainty and drama. The cast also includes Holliday Grainger, Sophie McShera, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham Carter. Kenneth Branagh directs.



The production itself looks highly polished, as anything coming out of the Mouse House rightly should. Still, we’ll see if director Kenneth Branagh’s take on Cinderella winds up dominating the box office as Disney anticipates (a’la Maleficent), or becomes a fairy tale re-telling that goes in the opposite direction money-wise (a’la Jack the Giant Slayer), in just a few weeks.
