Newly appointed Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz vowed to restructure several departments in KL City Hall to eliminate overlapping tasks and responsibilities.
He said, some departments will be merged in order to make City Hall a more efficient organisation.
"For example, Urban Transportation Department and Public Works Department have already been merged and it will be focusing on civil engineering works.
"Same goes to the Urban Planning and Physical Planning departments, they are related to each other. We have decided to combine them to concentrate on Kuala Lumpur Planning and Structuring. The two departments are now under one roof and things will be much more consistent," he told reporters at the inauguration ceremony of the 11th KL Mayor held at the Dataran DBKL in Puchong today.
Mohd Amin was appointed as the 11th city mayor who will be serve for five years until 2020, taking over the reigns from Tan Sri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
Meanwhile, Mohd Amin also announced that the post of Mayor and City Hall director-general is now one and the same.
Besides that, he said issues which are still plaguing KL-ites include illegal advertising, traffic congestion, the 'invasion' of foreigners and housing.
"These are the issues which need to be addressed. Before we start tabling the short-term plan, we have to focus on these problems," he said.
He added that the RM4 billion government allocation for City Hall will be used to beautify the city.
"The allocation will be used to make KL a much more appealing city and we will execute all plans involving development of buildings, roads, public parks, flyovers and many more," said Mohd Amin.
On crime and public safety in the city, City Hall will work closely with the police, Immigration, and Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to address issues.
Mohd Amin also expressed hoped that the public will cooperate with City Hall to resolve those issues in a quest to make KL a safe, clean and vibrant city.
