KUALA LUMPUR: The 2013 Auditor-General’s Report tabled today found that the Kuantan’s new court complex had exceeded the initial cost by RM19.56 million.
“The complex was late by 560 days and the cost of construction exceeded by RM19.56 million because of poor planning from designs and work scope aspects,” the first series of the report stated.
According to the report, the construction of the project began on July 8, 2009 with a cost of RM157.34 million and a contract of 78 weeks.
But the project was only completed on July 17, 2013, in 158 weeks.
The new complex in Bandar Indera Mahkota is to replace the old complex in Jalan Masjid.
The report also noted defects found, maintenance and construction period which was deemed as impractical as well as not following the design specification and unsatisfactory work.
However, the report also stated that the construction had met its objective of providing a more comfortable physical space for judicial activities in Kuantan, Pahang.
The report suggested that the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) and the Public Works Department (JKR) to consider several things including ensuring that each project is carefully planned.
JKR has also been told to monitor contractors’ work progress according to the specification and quality.
