New parking rate: Decision to be made soon - Tengku Adnan

The decision to revise the new increased parking rate under the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be announced soon, said Federal Territory Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Stressing that it will take into consideration the voice of all city dwellers as a whole, he said, his office was now fine-tuning the matter to come up with a rate which does not neglect the interest of the people and preservation of the capital city.

“In another two or three days, or four or five days, you just have to wait. We are getting the feedback from the people.

“Some are happy, some like it, some do not like it. We will make a decision for the rakyat because the government today always takes care of the people’s interest.

“We also need to make sure the city is preserved, not much polluted with smoke and all,” he told a press conference at the ministry’s Hari Raya Open House at Dataran DBKL today.

Previously, Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said the new parking charges at DBKL-owned parking bays, which saw an increase of between 100% and 200%, would not be scrapped.

The new rate, enforced in stages from July 18 until August 1, had caused an uproar among the people.

This is because, most people felt the timing was not right as public transportation within the Klang Valley had yet to be fully integrated as even the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) is still undergoing construction.
