New parking rate will not be scrapped - City Hall

The new parking charges at Kuala Lumpur City Hall-owned parking bays, which saw an increase of between 100% and 200%, would not be scrapped, said Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz today.

However, he said, City Hall would only be re-assesing the rate of the hikes, following public complaints since the new charges were enforced beginning Monday.

"There will still be a hike. However, we are deliberating on reducing the rate of the charges," said Mhd Amin when contacted by Astro AWANI.

According to him, DBKL may introduce a lower charge for parking spaces outside of the city area as compared to within the city.

Previously, The Star Online reported DBKL had scrapped the new charges following a meeting with the Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The new rate, enforced in stages from Monday until August 1, had caused an uproar among the people.

This is because, most people felt the timing was not right as public transportation within the Klang Valley had yet to be fully integrated as even the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) is still undergoing construction.

MRT is scheduled to start its operations by end of the year.
