The first cycling path in Kuala Lumpur that was launched only a day ago has been misused.
Unscrupulous car owners have been seen parking their cars along the 5.5 kilometer path from Dataran Merdeka to Mid Valley, Bangsar.
Based on ‘sharings’ on social media websites, the route is clearly being misused by irresponsible drivers.
The path was created specifically for cyclists, however, it has been indiscriminately used by other vehicles.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is expected to gazette the route soon.
Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib in a brief statement to Astro AWANI said the action would enable them to sue irresponsible drivers who misuse the lane and subsequently bring them to court.
For the moment DBKL will tow any vehicles seen blocking the route as a measure of enforcement.
The special lane for bicycles along the Klang River began construction in 2013 with the cost of about
RM700, 000.
It was launched by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib on Tuesday.
The special cycling lanes is to promote the use of bicycles to reduce traffic congestion apart from reducing pollution levels in the city.
