JELEBU: A newlywed couple's plan to hold a wedding ceremony took a raincheck after their family's house in Kampung Kuala Pah, here, was flooded last Saturday.

Mohd Ikhwan Mohd Kamil, 22, said all preparations for the event were destroyed when they were washed away by the floods causing him to bear losses of up to RM15,000.

"I cannot describe the feeling. Preparations for the groom's side reception have been made and we have spent a lot of money on it.

"Unfortunately there is nothing we can do, we accept this as fate," he told Bernama when met at a relief centre at Dewan D'Sury, here.

Mohd Ikhwan's wife Nur Ain Wisni Faizal, 19, who was at her in-laws' house when the floods occurred, said she had not expected to face such a situation.

She hoped that her family would be allowed to return home soon to enable them to start cleaning up their house.

Nur Ain Wisni said for now, she and her husband who were solemnised on Dec 5, only focused on works to clean and repair their damaged house, adding that the wedding reception would only be held if their financial situation permits.

The groom's father, Mohd Kamil Zainun, 42, said everything happened so fast.

"At 8.30 pm my house was inundated with ankle-deep water. We immediately moved the household items to a higher place but the effort was futile as the water became too fast before sweeping away those items.

"Many items were destroyed and we suffer huge losses," he said.
