News: A 5 door Mini hatchback?

Mini recently introduced the second body variant of the third generation Mini, and it has five doors. By Jerrica Leong

Mini is once again redefining urban driving fun with the introduction of their latest Mini offering. The new Mini variant of the third generation Mini range is a five door and aptly named the New Mini 5-Door. It is the first ever five-door model in the small car segment that will further underscore the brand’s unrivalled driving excitement.

From the front the Mini looks like the 3-Door variant but look at it from the side and you will not mistake the 5-Door for its 3-Door counterpart. The 5-Door receives a defined expansion in exterior dimensions in comparison to its original three door model. While it retains the distinctive Mini design the 5-Door is 16cm longer than the original Mini hatch to offer more space and the additional door option.

Standing at 3982mm long, 1727mm wide and 1425mm high the 5-Door has dimensions that will benefit the additional two doors as well as easier accessibility for back-seat passengers. The extended body length also allows for more luggage compartment space, increasing it to a total of 278-litres.

There is a 2.0-litre Mini TwinPower Turbo Technology petrol engine hidden beneath the clam-shell bonnet. It delivers a maximum output of 192bhp and 280Nm of torque to gives drivers a sportier driving performance. Couple that with a six speed automatic sport transmission, the 5-Door accelerates from 0-100kph in just 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 230kph. These figures are combined with an average fuel consumption record of 5.5-litres per 100km with CO2 emissions level reading of 129g/km.

You can confirm that the fuel consumption readings are achieved with the help of the automatic engine star/stop function.

Inside, the 5-Door is decked out with Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black Upholstery as well as sports seats for both the driver and front passenger. The interior ambience is also enhanced by the Black Checkered interior surface, Chrome Line Interior and headliner in Anthracite. The sporty feel is completed with the Mini John Cooper Works multifunction leather steering wheel.

The hallmark Mini central instrument panel is present as well in the 5-Door. Navigate around the safe, intuitive and convenient control of driver assistance, infotainment and comfort systems with the help of the 6.5in Visual Boost LCD display.

Eleven colour options are available for the New Mini Cooper S 5-Door including Electric Blue as a new Mini colour exclusive to the new Mini 5-Door. The stripes are also available in two colour options of white or black to match the colour choice.
